For those of you who don't already know me, my name is Megan (McCallum) and I am a Dentist working in the Glasgow area. I grew up in Ayrshire surrounded by the spirit of Rabbie Burns and spent most of my time in various athletic clubs, including Orienteering and guess what?! I've a terrible sense of direction!
Work experience and a love for science led me down the long and often arduous path of graduating from Glasgow University with a BDS (dental degree).
During my time at Dental School I carried out an elective in a regional maxillofacial unit and was fortunate enough to take part in an exchange programme with Sun Yat Sen University in China. Like many of you, I grew up knowing nothing other than our very own NHS and this exchange has left me with an undeniable perspective on how lucky we are to be cared for by the NHS. (Curious about this? Keep your eyes peeled for a subsequent blog post on my experience)
I completed my BDS with an outreach dental placement in Falkirk
and on graduating completed a further training year at a practice in Stepps. I am now currently based in Bishopton where I carry out a mix of dentistry, tooth straightening and facial aesthetic treatments for my patients.
Since graduating in 2016 I have further developed my skill set in a number of areas including facial aesthetic treatments, cosmeceutical skincare (search ZO Skin Health or check out my Instagram), oral surgery placement in Forth Valley, and am qualified in both Quick Straight Teeth and the InvisalignGO tooth straightening systems. I am currently undertaking the Level 7 Diploma in Clinical Injectable Therapies with MATA (Medical and Aesthetics Training Academy).
Since March 2020 I realized my vision of moving parts of my skill set online: say hello to Virtual Consultations! During a year where I spent three months answering calls from home (tricky when you're a dentist!), then focusing purely on emergency care, and still not being able to carry out aesthetic treatments for my patients I set up this website and Instagram page. I am now able to (albeit virtually) meet people from far and wide to discuss their skincare and well-being needs, and in many cases deliver products straight to your door.
Behind the scenes, I like to get stuck into some DIY, and primarily spend most of my free time (and money) on my bulldog, Tunnocks. He's been the real MVP during these tough times by keeping me in a routine and bringing light to the darkest of days!
I hope this has helped to reveal a bit more about who I am and please remember, I studied Dentistry not English! Please forgive this first attempt at a blog post...
I look forward to meeting you all soon! I'm always available via e-mail or Instagram.
Thanks for reading!
